The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has expressed grave displeasure about claims by some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) that its ongoing strike action is politically motivated. According to the association, such baseless allegations from unpatriotic citizens will only thwart government efforts to get them back to work. Some members of the ruling party are pointing accusing fingers at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of motivating public sector workers to embark on labour agitation. An NDC group claims the NPP in its bid to make the Mahama-led administration unpopular is working assiduously with its appendages in the labour front to frustrate government. A publication in a pro NDC newspaper, Daily Post purported that the NPP and its allies in executive position in the labour unions are plotting to make the country ungovernable for the NDC. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, President of GMA, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei said such allegation from the NDC is an insult to their intelligence. He noted that such utterances make "we doctors feel like we don't have a mind of our to take decisions". "Such propaganda make us feel like stooges being used for political expediency" he added. The GMA President vehemently denied the allegation stating that they [doctors] will not be distracted by such vile propaganda by people he described as faceless agents of the ruling party. He said if the claim that their strike is politically motivated is anything to go by, then government should rather resolve their grievance to put their opponents to shame. The GMA President said government is obligated to see to the welfare of every Ghanaian worker including doctors therefore it must not shirk it responsibility. Dr. Opoku-Adusei maintained that the doctors will only return to work if government pays their allowances and market premiums in full.
