The President of the Teachers and Education Workers Union is disappointed with the decision by some school heads to use non-teaching staff to supervise the basic and secondary school examination which started on Monday. With teachers on strike and with nobody available to invigilate the students, some school heads decided to rely on cooks, labourers and other non-teaching staff to facilitate the smooth organization of the exams. But that decision has been questioned by TEWU. Its president Peter Lumor told Joy News’ Eric Ahianyo the action was not well thought through. He said they will not take responsibility for any lapses in the exams. He cited cases in which examinations have been cancelled because of poor supervision, adding, even in those cases it was professional teachers who were invigilating. He said the school heads must be ready to bear the responsibility if anything goes wrong. In Labone SHS, in Accra some teachers were seen invigilating the students during the exams. They said they were yet to be informed about the strike.
