The tourism bill, currently before Cabinet, is expected to be passed in October this year by Parliament.
It would among other things transform the Ghana Tourists Board (GTB) into a Ghana Tourism Authority, Mrs Zita Okaikoi, Minister of Tourism, said on Friday.
She said: “I am very excited about the Tourism Bill because when it is finally passed the Ghana Tourists Board will be able to do much more on their own and it will enhance Ghana’s tourism.”
Mrs Okaikoi said this when she handed over 12 vehicles and nine motor bikes worth GH¢519,000 to the Ghana Tourists Board to facilitate and enhance work.
The Ghana Tourists Board did not have excuse not to work, she said, explaining that the staff of GTB was now better equipped to move around freely for their inspections and enforce all the tourism regulations.
Mrs Okaikoi said: “We now expect to see an enhanced and better services in the tourism industry.
Mr Edem Kpodo, Board Chairman of the GTB, who received the vehicles on behalf of the organization, said the GTB was excited about the vehicles and was sure they would enhance their work.
“We hope our staff will now make more effort to enhance tourism services in the country,” he added.
