Implementation of the Advance Shipment Information system appears to be hanging in the balance.
While the Transport Ministry is saying the program - which is expected to streamline activities of importers - will take off in April, the Trade Ministry insists it has been suspended indefinitely.
Transport Minister, Dzifa Ativor, said the Trade Ministry cannot suspend the ASHI because "ASHI is being implemented by the Ghana Shippers' Authority under the Ministry of Transport".
However, Deputy Trade and Industry, Ricketts Hagan, said recently that ASHI and the Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project (G-CAP) have both been suspended indefinitely upon an order from the Presidency.
Ricketts Hagan told Joy Business: "The directive from the Presidency is that both the G-CAP and ASHI should be suspended indefinitely."
It is unclear the reason for this confusion from the two ministries.
Meanwhile, business owners say they will do anything to stop implementation of ASHI.
President of the National Chamber of Commerce said his outfit is vehemently opposed to the program.
Seth Adjei Baah is President of National Chamber of commerce who are actually opposed to the program.
He said the directive from the Presidency suspending the ASHI is commendable.
