Two persons who tortured a taxi driver before snatching his cab on the Lateh-Adukrom road in the Eastern Region were on Monday put before an Accra Circuit Court.Kwesi Adu, 23, and Yaw Anim, 25, are being held on charges of conspiracy and robbery.The two shot the taxi driver, Mr. Francis Owusu, inflicted cutlass wounds
on him, tied him and threw him into the bush before driving his car away.Meanwhile, the victim is still on admission at the Intensive Care Unit of the Accident Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.The court, presided over by Mr Mahammadu Iddrisu did not take the plea of Adu and Anim but remanded them to reappear on August 26.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ms. Mary Agbozo told the court that, at about 0430 hours on July 23, Adu and Anim hired Mr. Owusu’s taxi from Adukrom to Accra under the pretext of picking an uncle who had just arrived from abroad.While on their way to Accra, Anim pleaded with the driver to stop for him to urinate.The prosecution said Mr. Owusu obliged, relaxed and waited for Anim, but when Anim returned he drew a sharp knife and ordered Mr Owusu to hand over his car keys.When the driver resisted, the suspects, shot him and inflicted cutlass wounds on him. Mr Owusu bled profusely and fell unconscious.The Prosecution said they tied him up and threw him into a bush nearby. Adu drove the car to Ashiaman Jericho and offered it for sale at GH¢ 2,500 cedis.The prosecution said a concerned citizen who became suspicious because of the price, alerted personnel from the Military Intelligence and during the negotiations, the suspects were rounded up.Source: GNA
