Two suspected car snatchers have been shot dead in a gun battle with a police patrol team in Accra.During a search, one foreign pistol, four rounds of ammunition, a locally manufactured pistol with seven live cartridges, a knife and a talisman were found on the dead robbers. The police has meanwhile, identified them as members of a gang which snatched cars from Kumasi and Accra and sold them in either city.Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Timbillah told journalists in Accra Wednesday, that the patrol team which was on snap check duties around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle last night, spotted a Dodge Calibra saloon car with registration number, DV 6976-12 occupied by the two men.He said the driver refused to stop when asked to do so and rather sped off, causing the police to chase them up.The occupants of the car, opened fire on the police, forcing the patrol team to return the fire. The two men got hit in the exchange and died when they were being conveyed to the Police hospital, DCOP Timbillah said.He said one of them has been identified as Boakye Agyeman, 28, a notorious armed robber on the police wanted list.Agyeman was also said to be an accomplice of Kwabena Tachie, another hardened robber who died in a police shoot-out earlier this year.
