A businessman, David Afriye and Ekow Kingsley Buah were on Thursday jailed by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiring and defrauding a Businessman, in Accra.
The two are to serve 30 months each for conspiracy while David is to serve 36 months for defrauding and Ekow 30 months for defrauding. All sentences are to run concurrently.
The culprits were said to have conspired and defrauded one Kofi Ntim Manu, somewhere in 2010 and had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After the trial, the court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh found them guilty of the offence and sentenced them accordingly.
Earlier the prosecution, Assistant Prosecution of Police, Cletus Abadamlora had told the court that the complainant, Kofi Ntim Manu, is a businessman as well as the accused persons and one Siaw now at large.
He said in 2010 David went to the complainant and said he had some cars for sale so Kofi expressed interest in buying a Mercedes Benz 350 S vehicle and BMW X6 for a friend.
The total cost of the two vehicles was $60,000 and so Kofi gave an initial deposit of $38,000 to David and Ekow after which he later made the final payment of $22,000 in the presence of a witness called Kwame Fori.
The prosecution said Ekow gave the complainant certain documents on the vehicles and Kofi, in turn, introduced Fori as his representative in Ghana whilst he is in abroad to David and travelled out of the country with the hope that whilst he was away the convicts would hand the vehicles to Fori.
ASP Abadamlora told the court that the vehicles never arrived and when the complainant asked David when the vehicles would arrive, he blamed the delay on Ekow and promised that he would ship another set of cars to him, but he did not.
