Vice President John Mahama has appealed to chiefs to lead the crusade in the fight against moral decay and indiscipline. “Parents and traditional rulers, through whose leadership and control our children and the youth are nurtured, need to advise and guide them when their actions deviate or do not conform to our norms and values”. Vice President Mahama said this in a speech read on his behalf at a grand durbar at Akyem Tafo to climax the Ohunkan festival celebration and the 25th Anniversary of Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, Akyem Tafohene. He said occupying a throne as a traditional ruler for 25 years was a great and significant achievement, expressing government’s appreciation and admiration for the peace and unity that had prevailed in the area over the years. “Peace is a requisite for stability and I doff my heart off for Nana Tafohene and his sub-chiefs for the sustained atmosphere of peace in their area of jurisdiction”. The Vice President added that the chieftaincy institution was very vital for progress and development and that he was inspired and encouraged about the involvement and contributions of chiefs at seminars and workshops. He called on traditional rulers to deepen and strengthen the bond of relationship via consultations, counseling, co-operation and support to enable government achieve its quest to usher the country into the comity of ‘Middle Income Nations’ in the not too distant future. Mr Mahama said the government would continue to provide infrastructure and social amenities to improve upon the quality of life of the people in the traditional area. Osabarima Adusei Peasah appealed to government to provide the Tafo hospital with more wards. He called for unity among the people at all times to enhance development in the area. Source: GNA
