Vice President John Mahama has paid glowing tribute to ex-president John Kufuor over his leadership training project.
Mr. Kufuor will be breaking the ground Tuesday for the million dollar project dubbed the John Agyekum Kufuor Centre for Leadership, Governance and Development project at the University of Ghana, Legon.
He will be accompanied by eminent personalities including the ex-president of Germany Horst Kohler, former South African President, Thabo Mbeki and the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
The dignitaries paid a courtesy call on the Vice President John Mahama prior to the ground breaking ceremony.
Mr. Kufuor said “it is fitting and proper that we call on you [Vice President] and seek permission” before going ahead with the project.
Mahama in expressing government’s support and approval for the project, said he is grateful African leaders, including Kufuor and Mbeki are ready to share their experiences with the current crop of leaders on the continent.
He was optimistic the Centre will churn out great African leaders who will entrench the ideals and tenets of African Renaissance, espoused by the past African leaders.
John Mahama had no doubt that the next emerging markets are going to come from Africa, given the consistent focused leadership, good governance and democratic credentials.
The ex-German president, Horst Kohler was particularly honoured to be part of this great initiative and was full of praise for ex-president John Kufuor.
He also commended Thabo Mbeki who he said has been key to this laudable project of Africa renaissance.
The dignitaries after the ground breaking event in Legon will proceed to the Ashanti Region for a similar project at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where they are also expected to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu II.
