The Volta Regional Director of Sports has added his voice to calls from the Paramount Chief for the Avatime Area for the handlers of national teams to train at Amedzofe ahead of major tournaments.
Osie Adzatekpor VII, who granted an interview to Asempa News last weekend said, his area has all the necessary training facilities needed by the Black Stars to win the 2012 Nations Cup.
The Paramount Chief is therefore challenging the handlers of national teams particularly the Black Stars, to bring them to Avatime where all the facilities would be made available to them.
He lamented over the practice where managers of national teams, including the Black Stars, spend so much on the teams to travel to France and other European countries to acclimatize ahead of major tournaments, when all the reasons for going there could be met in Ghana, precisely, Avatime.
The Regional Director of Sports Gabriel Yaw Misode has told Asempa News that, indeed, the Avatime area is more than suitable to be used as a training area for cyclists and athletes as well as the national football teams.
He disclosed plans to invite President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantekyi to tour the area to see for himself what the Avatime area has to offer in terms of altitude and training facilities.
He said he will write to leaders of the various disciplines under the sports ministry to embark on similar missions in order to reduce the high cost of organising overseas training trips for national teams, when they can achieve the same purpose at a very low cost.
Mr. Misode said his outfit will, with immediate effect, adopt the area to camp athletes and cyclists who will be participating in national competitions.
