Voltic (GH) Limited, Ghana’s biggest selling bottled water company, has handed over 2,988 tutu desks valued at GHC 100,000.00 to World Vision for distribution to school children in deprived communities in Ghana.
The donation is the outcome of an initial partnership between World Vision Ghana and Voltic’s sister company, Accra Brewery Limited, to assist deprived children in Ghana to improve access to quality education while improving learning outcomes.
Voltic has since taken over the partnership from Accra Brewery Limited and this is the second presentation following the first donation made to World Vision Ghana in November 2012 by Accra Brewery Limited.
According to the Sales and Distribution Director of Voltic (GH) Limited, Michael Effah “this year Votic (GH) Limited, has taken over the tutudesk initiative with the donation of 2,988 desks, at a cost of GHC 100,000 to benefit more children. This gesture falls in line with Voltic’s objective of helping to satisfy the basic needs of school children in deprived communities in Ghana. The distribution will once again be done through World Vision Ghana.”
Mr Effah noted that the focus of Voltic’s corporate social investment initiatives is on the positive transformation and uplifting of communities by supporting basic education, health and social development. “Voltic (GH) Limited strives to ensure that our work benefits as many people as possible whilst providing stability and security for future generations.”
Mr. Effah stressed, “To us, social investment is not an add-on to business activities, but at the heart of how we engage with the communities where our customers, employees, investors and suppliers live.”
Receiving the items on behalf of World Vision Ghana, National Director, Mr. Hubert Charles noted, “Since the last donation, we have received countless reports on the significant improvements that have occurred in the lives of the beneficiary children, especially the story of a 15 year old disabled Grace Ayimaye who as a result of the tutu desk has become so effective in her studies that she witnessed a marked improvement in learning outcomes in Form 2 at the Nyankontre Roman Catholic Junior High School in Sene in the Brong Ahafo Region. ’
Mr. Charles noted “World Vision Ghana is still committed to its strategic desire to improve access and quality of basic education for about 2.4 million children including the most vulnerable leading to improved learning outcomes in Ghana between now and 2015.”
Tutu desks are portable school desks (flat surface writing boards) provided by the Tutu desk Campaign (whose Patron is Archbishop Desmond Tutu) to children in Sub Saharan Africa who do not have the benefit of a classroom desk which affects a child’s ability to concentrate in class. So far over 1 million desks have been distributed across sub-Saharan Africa.
