The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa has taken a tour on parts of the Eastern Corridor road, Friday.
The aim is to access the progress of work on the road and to also encourage the contractors and the engineers to put more effort to work for early completion
Briefing the Minister on his arrival at the Asikuma Junction, the resident Engineer in charge of the project, Mr. Mohammed Abu told the minister that, the first part of the project was funded by the government of Ghana and was supposed to have been completed in December 2013.
However, due to the unavailability of funds the deadline was not met. The first part stretches from Asikuma Junction to Agate, he said.
He noted that, work is steadily progressing on lots 2 and 3 which stretches from Agate to Logba Alakpeti and Logba Alakpeti to Hohoe which is being funded by the Ghana COCOBOD.
He hoped that, all things being equal, they would be completed and handed over in the year 2019 as planned.
In his remarks, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Regional Minister commended the Regional Director of Highways as well as the resident engineer for a good job done by protecting the interest of the nation.
He promised to engage the Ministry of Roads and Highways as well as the Ministry Of Finance so that, funds can be released for the completion of the projects since it is long overdue.
The projects are being executed by a contracting firm known as G.S International.
