The Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo) says power will be restored to all areas which were affected by power cuts on Monday evening by 11 am Tuesday morning.
Ebenezer Amankwah, Corporate Communications Manager of the company explained that the power cuts which left many parts of the capital and other areas without electricity throughout the night were caused purely by technical issues such as gas flow challenges.
Speaking on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show, Tuesday he explained that, “on Monday there was a scheduled performance test on a new regulating and metering gas station in Tema by the West African Gas Pipeline. So this led to a cessation of gas supply to some power plants in Tema.
There was an additional issue that as part of the test an assembly plant we have was to shut down at 9 am yesterday with a plan to restart at 10 am yesterday.
However, this process also encountered some operational difficulties.
Additionally, the Karpowership at the Aboadze enclave also had some difficulties due to gas flow challenges and the plant became unavailable.
"This is what led to prolonged outages in parts of the country,” he told host Daniel Dadzie.
He assured members of the public that as the maintenance team continued to work to fix the issue and restore power to the areas affected.
“The maintenance team are working assiduously round the clock to fix the issue and as I speak, power has been restored to almost all the affected areas currently.
"We can assure everybody that work has been done. In fact, through last night till this morning (Tuesday), the maintenance team were committed to try and make sure every area is up with power.
"I can assure you that those who are not even having light currently would have it in the shortest possible time,” the public relations officer said.
