The West Africa Union of Ewes (WAUE) has launched the inaugural EWE Cup of Nations to mark the beginning of an era for the people belonging to the Ewe ethnic group.
The soccer tournament, which was launched at Lome in Togo was aimed at fostering unity and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Ewes, who have populated the West African sub-region.
The Founder and President of the West Africa Union of Ewes, Foster Enam Dagadu emphasized that the primary objective of the EWE Cup of Nations was to preserve the culture and traditions of Ewes.
He asserted that "cultural unity" plays a pivotal role in strengthening communities and promoting social cohesion.
"The Ewe people have a rich and diverse cultural heritage that we must cherish and celebrate. This event is a platform to bring together Ewes from Nigeria, Togo, Benin, and Ghana, allowing us to showcase our unique traditions, art, and sports to the world”, he said.

He said the maiden EWE Cup of Nations was scheduled to take place in Ghana in November 2023, promising to be a spectacular showcase of Ewe culture, history, and sportsmanship.
He stressed that the grand event will not only feature a competitive football tournament but also traditional performances, art exhibitions, and culinary delights.
“Football and cultural enthusiasts would have the opportunity to witness the participating teams display their skills on the field while promoting unity, networking, and brotherhood among the Ewe people”, he said.
The EWE Cup of Nations is expected to become a cultural and sporting spectacle that will leave a legacy of unity among Ewe communities across borders.
