A routine domestic disagreement over dinner tragically escalated into a violent confrontation in Maamaso, near New Abirem, resulting in a 29-year-old man being stabbed.
The victim’s 21-year-old wife, identified only as Maafua, is currently in police custody after allegedly attacking her husband, Kofi, during the heated argument about the evening's meal.
The incident occurred in the Maamaso community of the Birim North District.
The victim, Kofi, sustained severe stab wounds and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention, Adom TV Eastern Regional Correspondent reported on Tuesday, October 21.
The suspect, Maafua, provided a statement detailing the sequence of events that led to the violence.
She stated that the misunderstanding began when Kofi gave her money to prepare a specific dish: banku and okro stew.
However, Maafua claimed she determined the allocated money was insufficient for the requested meal and made an executive decision to prepare a less costly alternative, light soup, instead.
When Kofi returned home from work and found the meal had been changed, he immediately confronted his wife, questioning her decision to override his request.
Maafua reportedly defended her actions by stating that the money provided was inadequate for the okro stew, adding that she had even saved a portion of the funds for future use.
The verbal argument quickly devolved into a physical fight.
Maafua claimed that during the scuffle, Kofi allegedly picked up a knife, which she managed to snatch from him.
It was then that she allegedly used the weapon to inflict the stab wounds on her husband.
However, this account was challenged by a witness.
An eyewitness, Atta Mallam, speaking to Adom News, claimed the suspect acted with malicious intent.
Kofi’s brother, Francis, who was in an adjacent room at the time, rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion.
He found his brother injured and immediately organised his evacuation.
The victim is currently receiving advanced medical care at the Koforidua Government Hospital.
The local police command has launched a full investigation into the stabbing to ascertain the precise sequence of events and the full facts surrounding the domestic altercation.
