About 2,800 vulnerable women, men, and children in the Greater Kumasi area have received food relief items ahead of the 2026 Ramadan season.
The items were distributed by Mercy to the World, a local humanitarian organisation, with support from Muslim Aid Australia International (MAA International). The initiative aimed to help needy families prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, a time when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and focus on prayer, charity, and community support.

The relief package included basic food items such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, sardines, liptop tea and other essential supplies. These items were handed over to beneficiaries to help lessen their financial burden and ensure they have enough food during Ramadan.
The distribution event was led by Kamaldeen Yakubu Zahrrah, Director of Mercy to the World. He explained that the support was meant to reach the most vulnerable in the community, especially those struggling with poverty, unemployment, illness, or lack of family support.
“The aim of this initiative is to help vulnerable families who may not be able to afford enough food during Ramadan,” Kamaldeen said. “We are thankful to Muslim Aid Australia International for partnering with us. Together, we want to bring relief and hope to those in need.”
The distribution took place at easily accessible locations in the Greater Kumasi area. Volunteers from Mercy to the World and Muslim Aid Australia International worked together to organise the event and make sure the goods were given fairly.
Many of the recipients expressed deep gratitude after receiving the relief items. For some, the support will make a big difference during the fasting period.
One beneficiary, Mariama Mahmud, said, “This support comes at the right time. Now my family can observe Ramadan without worrying too much about food.”
Another recipient, Fati Mohammed, a mother of five said the relief items would help her children and reduce her stress as she prepares for the holy month.
The partnership between Mercy to the World and Muslim Aid Australia International highlights how international support can help local organisations reach more people in need. Muslim Aid Australia International provided financial and material support, while Mercy to the World handled the local organisation and distribution.
With Ramadan approaching, the food relief provided to these 2,000 vulnerable individuals and families will support them during a time of spiritual reflection and community gathering. Organisers hope this support will encourage others to give to those in need and strengthen community bonds.
Mercy to the World said they will continue partnering with organisations like Muslim Aid Australia International to support vulnerable people in Kumasi and beyond.
