Madam Teresa Abugah, Head of the Women's Desk of the Ghana Trade Union Congress (GTUC), on Tuesday urged women to pursue challenging professions towards raising their profiles for leadership in society. "We have to break those perceived areas for men. The leadership monopoly must be broken for fair leadership for our nation," she said. Madam Abugah was addressing a two-day leadership training workshop for women Trade Unionists in the Volta Region in Ho. The workshop, sought to equip the women unionists with the skills of public speaking, leadership and rights advocacy. It was under the auspices of GTUC with support from "Realising Rights", a USA based NGO. Madam Abugah urged women to look beyond their domestic chores and take advantage of long distance learning opportunities to prepare themselves for leadership positions. She said it was time women raised their ambitions above "stereotype jobs" such as "nursing, secretarial jobs and cleaning" into perceived male professions. Togbe Adom Drayi II, Head of Organizational Department of GTUC advised participants to take advantage of labour courses at the Ghana Labour College to build their capacities and become well informed trade unionists. The participants were taken through topics such as labour relations, leadership skills, basic rights, organizing skills and gender equality among others.Source: GNA
