Yaya Toure is disappointed not to have won a record fifth straight CAF award.
The 32-year-old Manchester City and Cote d’Ivoire captain has been named Africa's player of the year between 2011 and 2014.
He would have overtaken Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o who has won the award four times - but Gabon star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pipped Toure in a the poll of coaches and technical directors of CAF nations.
Toure, who beat beat Borussia Dortmund's Aubameyang to the prize in 2014, said: “I am disappointed but that won’t take anything from anybody.
"I am sure Andre Ayew is also disappointed after what he did last year.
“This is not the time to complain. We will all go back and continue to work hard.”
It's been a tough week for Toure.
He received criticism from Blues supporters after the 2-1 League Cup semi-final first leg at Goodison Park.
Toure scored 3.8 – the lowest fan rating for a City player on the night.
