Youth Without Borders Ghana (YWB Ghana) has applauded the government for establishing the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

The youth group says the decision that carved the ministry is a bold one that prioritises youth development in Ghana’s national agenda.

Leading up to the 2024 elections, the organisation presented the Ghana Youth Manifesto, a policy document to various party manifesto teams, outlining the essence of a ministry dedicated to harnessing youth potential and addressing challenges.

Speaking at the 9th Annual General Meeting, Director of Communication and Public Affairs of Youth Without Borders Ghana, Haruna Tajudeen emphasised that the decision falls in line with the group’s constant advocacy.

“It is noteworthy that, since 2015, YWB Ghana has led the advocacy of the creation of a dedicated youth ministry, emphasizing its strategic importance to youth development, political participation and inter-generational leadership.
“This will ensure the effective allocation of national resources to the development of young people’s intellectual and economic capacities,” he said.

The newly established ministry is tasked to implement strategic and fresh policies aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the Ghanaian youth.

The ministry is mandated to facilitate platforms for job opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, and developing skills that empower the country’s youthful population.

The YWB Ghana welcomed the ministry, congratulating the first minister of the Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo.

“The creation of this ministry is timely and necessary, given young people’s critical role in national development. We at YWB Ghana consider this a pivotal moment for advancing youth-related policies and initiatives.
“We solemnly congratulate Mr. George Opare Addo Esq., on his appointment as the first Minister of the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment. We wish him well and remain committed to collaborating with the Ministry and the Government in general to achieve shared goals,” Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Haruna Tajudeen, said.

The YWB Ghana is a youth-for-youth development civil society organization and social movement with national, continental and global outlook.
