A pile-up on the N1 Highway on Wednesday morning left at least one person dead, with several others sustaining serious injuries.
The crash, which involved ten (10) tipper trucks and a taxi cab, occurred at about 4 am near the Apenkwa overpass on the Lapaz-Tetteh Quarshie stretch of the N1 Highway.
The deceased, who was only identified as “Obolo” and driver of one of the trucks, was buried under the sand he had gone to load with his truck.
Reports said he had attempted to escape through the window when the incident occurred but his vehicle overturned, fell and covered him with the sand.
Another truck also caught fire in the process but the prompt arrival of security personnel and the Ambulance Service, prevented anymore fatalities.
The incident created a heavy vehicular congestion on that road and other adjoining roads in the Achimota area. It is not clear what caused the multiple collision.
