12 tennis players for All Africa Games

The technical team of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has selected 12 players to justify their inclusion for the All Africa Games. The team is made up of six males and six females. Four from each category will be selected to form the national table tennis team – the Black Loopers for the All Africa Games scheduled for Algiers, Algeria. The male team is made up of Derek Abrefa and Felix Lartey – Greater Accra, Mohamed Ali – Police Service, Acquah Aikins – Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) with Britain based Eric Amoah and Eric Hammond completing the list. Akosua Ketu and Celia Baah Danso – Central region, Lynda Annor – Greater Accra region, Bernice Borquaye Borley – GAF, Beatrice Pokua Gyasi – Ghana Police Service and Ghana National Fire Service’ Francesca Amankrah comprise the female team. The selection of the players was based on their total point build up in a number of championships from July 2006 to April 2007, their current performance in local and foreign competitions, consistency, and general physical and tactical competence. The players, according to the information gathered by the GNA Sports are to participate fully in a weekly elimination championship for their rankings and towards the selection of the final set of four men and four women. They are also expected to demonstrate high level of discipline during the residential camping period and to be in a competitive spirit. The All Africa Games is scheduled for July 5th to 23. Ghana last won a bronze medal in Table Tennis at the All Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria last year. Source: GNA
