CSR Foundation Ghana in collaboration with UN Global Compact Network Ghana is organizing the 2nd Annual National CSR Conference from 6th to 7th November 2012 at the Coconut Grove Hotel.This year’s conference is under the distinguished chairmanship of Nana Dr. S.K.B Asante, Former President Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and Omanhene of Asokore.The theme for this year’s conference is “Mainstreaming emerging issues of corporate social responsibility into organizational behaviour in Ghana.The speakers at the two day conference have been chosen carefully from local as well as international experts and they include Professor Ken Attafua, (Director of the William Ofori Atta Institute of Integrity, Central University), Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, (Senior Reseacher, Legon Center for International Affairs and Diplomacy) Dr. Dan Ofori, (Coordinator, Centre for Corporate Responsibility, University of Ghana Business School), DR. Ayesha Hakeem (Managing Director, African Connections Ghana) Mr. Kweku Rockson, (Member of the Board of Trustees, CSR Foundation Ghana) Mr. Desmond Appiah, (Executive Director, Sustainable Ghana.Ms. Helle Johansen, Private Sector Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme Nordic Office would be visiting as a major speaker at the conference.The keynote speaker is Mr. Herbert Morrison President of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.Topics to be discussed at the conference include an Overview of CSR Theory and Practice in Ghana, The Role and Responsibilities of Political Parties towards Sustainable Governance and Sustainable Development, Mainstreaming Human Rights Issues into CSR Practice in Ghana, Global Best Practices in CSR and the Ghanaian Experience, Health and Safety as a Core Issue of CSR, Cultural Heritage, Community Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility in Ghana and Mainstreaming Labour Issues in CSR Practice in Ghana.The Annual National CSR Conference was instituted by CSR Foundation Ghana in 2011.This was based on the appreciation that globally, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been accepted not only as an important academic concept but also as a vital partnership tool which enhances corporate credibility and most importantly promotes community development and ultimately can be maximized in fulfillment of the development aspirations of countries.The need for Africa and Ghana in particular to utilize this partnership opportunity to attain sustainable development was most important and the objectives of the annual conference are:1.To and institute and to sustain national dialogue on CSR in the country.2.To encourage action from government, corporate organizations, civil society organizations, communities and society to embed CSR in their everyday behavior for sustainable development.This year’s conference also aims at having a discussion on ways to encourage peaceful political participation as a concomitant to sustainable development.
