All things being equal, the country's electricity generation will be increased by 360-megawatts (MW) at the completion of a new combined-cycle thermal power plant to be sited at Inchaban in the Shama District in the Western Region.
The 360-megawatt (MW) plant which will be run with natural gas and light crude oil is to be constructed by a Norwegian energy company, Jacobson Jelco Ghana Limited to augment power supply in the country.
The project which is under a public-private partnership will be a major project to be signed by the current government under the energy sector.
The construction of the plant, to be located on a 45-acre land, is expected to start next year after the completion of all the necessary documentation and proccesses.
Already the company has paid compensation to 32 farmers who have been affected by the project.
In line with the project, a public hearing on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (EIA) has been held to provide an opportunity to discuss the potential impacts and propose mitigation measures to address key public concerns.
The Director of Project Development of Jacobsen Elektro, Lars Due told journalists in Takoradi that, the company had extensive experience in power production and distribution and has been in business for 120 years.
