Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye says about 60 percent of beds in covid-19 designated centres are full.
The designated centres, that are dealing with the severe and principal cases of covid -19 include; Ga East, 37 Military Hospital, Ridge Hospital, Korle Bu, Tema General Hospital, Nyaho Hospital and the Police Hospital.
As of January 11, 2021, the number of confirmed cases stood at 56,981 with 1,404 active cases and 55,236 recoveries/discharges.
Unfortunately, 341 persons have died from the infection while 175 new cases have been recorded.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mr Aboagye stated that the upsurge of Covid-19 cases “are the repercussions of Christmas and the New Year celebrations” and the failure of people to adhere to the covid-19 protocols during the festivities.
He added that there is no evidence to show that political activities add up to the increase of the virus’ infections.
“This disease has a very peculiar cycle; within 2 weeks you will see it. So if you don’t see anything within 14 days or 3 weeks you cannot go back and say it was the politics,” he said.
Currently, “the number of active cases in the hospitals are stabilizing therefore the service is of the hope that the number of the cases in the hospitals will decline,” he added.
According to him, in managing the spread of the virus, the service is using “the infectious disease centre, which has a hundred bed facility, 5 intensive care unit and sixteen high dependency units which has served as an expansion and given them more room for cases to be managed”.
The Ghana Health Service has also recruited additional staff and contact tracing to help control the spread of the virus and plans to embark on a massive campaign in all the districts in the Greater Accra Region to educate the public.
