Deputy Black Stars Captain John Paintsil, who has been in the news lately for assaulting his wife, may have attempted suicide according to one of his Blackberry Messenger status updates.
Shortly before he collapsed and was rushed to the Ghana-Canada Hospital Tuesday, he posted the following message on his BB status: “I will rest in peace …goodbye loved once[es],”.
News of his collapse came as a surprise Tuesday morning.
It is not yet clear what may have caused the collapse but he was revived by medical officers and released from the hospital shortly after he arrived.
Joy Sports can confirm that shortly after he was discharged, he posted another BB status update reading, “That was close. Thanks guys.”
Meanwhile, a statement issued by Paintsil’s media advisor Ebenezer Aidoo says the player was hospitalised after he suffered "exhaustion and dehydration."

Press release: Statement on John Paintsil's health status
John Paintsil was unfortunately hospitalized this morning suffering from exhaustion and dehydration.
He received medical care at a hospital in Accra this morning and he has been released to go home to continue with his recovery.
The past five days have taken a severe emotional toll on the entire Paintsil family, Richlove and John especially, and that toll manifested itself in the unfortunate incident this morning.
The Paintsil family is immensely grateful to the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Football Association for the big support they have given and continue to give the family.
We ask the media to give the entire family privacy during this difficult time.
Signed:
Ebenezer Aidoo
John Paintsil's media adviser
