The much anticipated International Bantamweight Organization bout between Ghana’s Joseph Agbeko and Colombian Luis Melendez has been rescheduled to March the 22nd due to what promoters and organizers describe as a last minute technical challenge.
Agbeko was scheduled to make his return to the ring after a 15 month lay-off against his opponent from Colombia but according to Eben Noye of Fresh Kings Entertainment who also doubles up as the Public Relations Officer of the fighter; a few technical hitches have led to the rescheduling of the bout.
“The Headline boxers for the bout, that is, Joseph and Melendez have been stepping up their preparations for the bout next week. Unfortunately though, a few issues have arisen over the last few days which have led to the bout being moved to a later date. Disappointing as it may be, we are still promising Ghanaian boxing fans and the World at large that we have a fantastic package coming up on the 22nd of this month and they simply can’t afford to miss out on this great occasion.
"You know it has been twenty five years since the Nation last hosted a World Title bout of this magnitude and it is important that we get the organization and technical issues right before the day of the bout.”
He added that all the boxers on the undercards are also preparing feverishly for this important assignment and are leaving nothing to chance.
Agbeko would be leading a bill of crack boxers at the Accra Sports Stadium on the 22nd of March which is expected to bring back memories of yesteryears in which Ghana produced several world beaters.
