Innocent children aged between one and fifteen years have been exposed to the hazardous conditions resulting from last Sunday’s fire out break. The fire razed down the popular Kantamanto market in the central business district of Accra. The victims of the disaster and female porters popularly known as “kayaye” were seen at the burnt market clearing rubles. The porters had babies strapped behind their backs. They were hired to clear the rubles by owners of the burnt shops.Smoke and dust emanating from activities of scavengers at the site also made it too hazardous for the porters to operate without nose protective wear.
