Chairman of Ghana’s largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has denied any wrongdoing in the ongoing leaked tape controversy.
Mr. Ampofo in the said audio is allegedly heard inciting party communicators to assault public officials, and plotting to harm some other civilians.

Speaking for the first time on the matter since the story broke Tuesday, Mr. Ampofo told scores of party supporters during a health walk in Accra, he rejected calls from the governing party for him to resign over the matter.
“You elected me as the Chairman of the party. Now the NPP has organised a press conference asking me to resign. I want to assure you that I am a man of peace, and my hands are clean”.
He invited party supporters to examine of trackrecord in politics which dates back to when he was appointed a District Chief Executive in the administration of President Jerry Rawlings who left power in 2001.
“I have been in politics for many years, there’s no evidence I have won my victory through violence or spoken against anybody. I want to remain focused, the NDC wants to remain focused. We will win the election freely, fairly and clearly.
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the party has no intention of winning 2020 election through violence and insecurity.
“The NDC believes in the rule of law and we are Democrats. … I want to assure all Ghanaians that the NDC will not kill women to win power, the NDC will not kidnap people to win power, the NDC will not insult to win the power, the NDC will bring a message of hope to Ghanaians”
Asking the party not to be distracted, Mr. Ampofo, who was elected Chairman in November 2018, stressed the party’s rank and file should remain focused on winning back power in 2020 polls.
Contents of the said tape have triggered the police CID’s interest, prompting an invitation to the NDC chairman. He told party supporters he would honour the CID’s invitation next week to clear his name.
