Ensign College of Public Health has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of Ghana to start The University of Utah, USA extended Master of Public Health (MPH) Program at the Ensign College of Public Health located at Kpong, in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

Ghanaians and African students who wish to pursue their studies in public health will have convenient access to the University of Utah’s amazing faculty, staff, and academic culture at the Ensign College of Public Health Campus with the same quality of education here in Ghana while earning a Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)-accredited MPH degree. The CEPH accreditation provides immediate recognition from the global academic public health community.

“It is a way to bridge the world,” said Prof.Stephen Alder, President, Ensign College of Public Health. He noted that having a global presence is becoming a necessity for “top-flight, competitive institutions.

“We are pleased to add the University of Utah Extended MPH as a complement to the existing KNUST-affiliated MPH degree offered at Ensign College of Public Health.”

He stressed that international efforts benefits everyone. “By having a global presence, we are thinking very differently about being a world-class institution,” he added.

Although the University of Utah has offered short-term programs in Ghana for more than a decade, offering a full MPH degree at Ensign College of Public Health is another step toward expanding the University’s global presence while benefiting West Africa and the world at large.

The Extended MPH Program will be ideal for Ghanaian students, especially for those who plan a career as a practice-focused professional in public health. The 45-credit hour professional degree will not only provide options to enrol in an accelerated program of study to complete the degree in three semesters but will also allow students the flexibility to proceed at a slower, part-time pace if preferred.   

The MPH program of the University of Utah provides coursework in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health, health policy and administration, and social and behavioural science. It also covers cross-cutting and emerging public health areas such as health care systems, planning and management to promote health, leadership, communication, interprofessional practice, and systems thinking, and a host of electives.
