A former Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Gustav Narh-Dormetey, has called on the people of Asesewa to show appreciation to the government by voting massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Election 2008.He said with the elevation of Upper-Manya to a district status, the people only needed to reciprocate that gesture by supporting the NPP to win the next elections.Addressing a large gathering of chiefs and People of Asesewa on Monday at a durbar organized to show appreciation to the government for the creation of Asesewa District, Mr Dormetey told the people that tradition demanded, "When someone does you a favour, you show gratitude"."That is why we are calling on all Krobos to reflect on the many good things that the NPP government has done for them to improve their living standards and vote for the NPP to retain power in the coming elections".Mr Narh-Dormetey, who contested the Upper-Manya seat in 2004 but lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), told the people that government was interested in the development of Ghana irrespective of who supported it and urged them to vote massively for the first time for the NPP to win all the seats in the Krobo areas.The Upper-Manya Constituency Chairman of NPP, Mr Joe Sam, said the creation of the Asesewa District showed that President Kufuor and for that matter the NPP did not look at the way people voted when distributing development projects.He said since 1992, NPP had never won any parliamentary seat let alone winning the presidential votes in the Krobo areas but the NPP had proved beyond doubt that it came for all parts of Ghana and wanted every community to have it's fair share of the national cake.A retired educationist, Mr Charles Narh, said agitation for a district started a long time ago and "if no government apart from the NPP has found it worthy to grant us that request we should not turn our back on it we must support it."The Manya-Krobo District Chief Executive, Mr David Sackite Asare, said Krobos had not been left out in the many policies that government had implemented to relieve the people.He said the Capitation Grant and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) were all benefits that the Krobos had not been denied access to.Earlier, there was a procession of Chiefs, senior citizens and school children amidst brass band through the principal streets of Asesewa to announce the happiness and appreciation of the people to government for the gestureSource: GNA
