A Non-Governmental Organisation, Vibrant Village Foundation (VVF), has brought smiles onto the faces of people of Sangbaka Sangbaka in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region.
Thanks to the Foundation, pupils in the community and surrounding villages no longer have to walk between 8-10kilometres sometimes crossing streams and rivers, to access education at the upper primary in the nearest school.
Residents, especially children, are now beaming with smiles as the Foundation led by its country director, Osman Mohammed, constructed, furnished and handed over a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities valued at GH₵259,493.
JoyNews in May 2016, highlighted the myriad of challenges faced by the people of Sangbaka located 28 kilometers away from the Sissala West capital of Gbollu.
At a ceremony to hand over the project to the community, representative of the Upper West Regional Director of Education, Chakurah Dramani poured encomiums and laudations on VVF, for working to improve education in the Sissala West district.
VVF Country Director, Osman Mohammed, stated that for children to grow to contribute to the country's development, they must be given the appropriate space to learn.
He, however, expressed worry over the huge deficit of educational infrastructure for pupils at the pre-school levels.
Mr. Osman appealed to the Ghana Education Service to post trained and qualified teachers to the school.
Executive Director of VVF, Laura Koch, was full of praise for Sissala West District Assembly and the people of Sangbaka, advising them to put the school into good use.
The Sissala West District Chief Executive, Mohamed Zakaria Bakor, advised the chiefs to properly demarcate the school land and other lands for future developmental projects.
