The Supreme Court has dismissed a certiorari application by the Cocoa Buyers Association to quash a ruling against them by an Accra High Court.
This follows an application that was filed in 2018 to overturn a High Court decision dismissing an earlier application for an injunction to restrain the airing of the ‘Missing Kilos’ Hotline Documentary by JoyNews.
The documentary shows instances of fraudulent adjustments of scales by some licensed cocoa buyers in an investigative piece by JoyNews’ undercover reporter, Kwetey Nartey.
It was due for broadcast in February 2018, but the License Buying Company filed a suit together with an application for injunction on the premiering of the documentary.
They claimed that the documentary contains unfair and unverified allegations of crime made against the companies.
Speaking to JoyNews, counsel for the interested parties, Evelyn Anyenini, said although there is a pending appeal at the Court of Appeals, the documentary can be aired.
