President Kufuor has started preparing his mind to get used to the idea that he will watch Ghana’s 52nd Anniversary Parade from the stands.
He said he was withholding his emotions as he reviewed the 51st Anniversary Parade on Thursday, March 6, 2008, which will be his last as a Head of State.
Speaking at this year’s independence parade at the Independence Square, the president said watching next year’s parade will come with nostalgic feelings.
President Kufuor said, in January 2001 he took over from former President Rawlings as the second President of the Fourth Republic at the same venue.
On Thursday, March 6, 2008, he was reviewing the anniversary parade at the same venue for the last time as president.
“I am grateful to have served as president for two consecutive terms”, he stressed.
Dearest to his heart, he noted was the desire to hand over to the next president, a united peaceful country.
Ghanaians should be justifiably proud of the fact that the country had enjoyed 15 years of uninterrupted leadership, he intimated.
