Two armed robbers broke down in tears as they were escorted from court to begin a 30-year jail term each on Tuesday.Alex Agyei Agyekum, 27, and Kojo Hagan, 25, had pleaded not guilty to a charge of armed robbery. An accomplice, Ebenezer Okuoyie, who had pleaded guilty when they were first arraigned before the court in December 2006, was sentenced to 21 years in prison in January last year. The court, presided over by Justice K.A. Pobie, heard that on December 3, 2006 the three men snatched a taxi cab from its driver at gunpoint. The prosecution said they asked the driver to take them from Pankrono to nearby Osbur Junction but they attacked the driver with a gun on arrival there at about 9.30 p.m. and took away the car.The accused drove the car to Assin Foso, in the Central Region, the following day and parked it at a mechanic’s workshop. The garage owner who became suspicious about the intentions of the three men, informed the police who rushed in to arrest them.
They had been in remand prison since December 2006.Source: The Ghanaian Times
