A resident in Bawku in the Upper East Region is appealing to the Government to hurry security reinforcements to the troubled town to save lives.
Sporadic gunshots could be heard as the man who said he was hiding in his bedroom made the appeal through Joy FM in a breaking news broadcast.
Even as he spoke in hushed tones, he said some armed men had just entered his house wielding guns.
The unidentified informant, who hails from Bawku but resides at Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, said sending in ground troops was not the answer but that airborne security would be the ideal solution as the combatants were hiding in street corners and houses.
He said there was not a single policeman or soldier in sight.
Fresh gun battles between Kusasis and Mamprusis started on Sunday, has so far claimed four lives, according to the Interior Minister, Kwamena Bartels.
He said a Kusasi opinion leader in the midst of people returning from religious prayers was shot and wounded badly. He died while being transported to Bolga, the regional capital for medical attention and the incident is what has started the new wave of fighting in the town.
