The Akyem Oda District Magistrate Court has remanded Emmanuel Opoku Debrah, a 26 year-old computer instructor, and Tahiru Shafiu, a computer student into police custody to reappear on February 26. The two accused persons pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing.Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ayamga Yakubu told the court that the complainant is a retired UNICEF official resident at Madina in Accra while Debrah is a computer instructor at KASSL INN Accra and resident at Akyem Oda.Shafiu, 20, is a computer student at KASSL INN, Accra and resident at East Legon in Accra.The prosecutor said in December last year Debrah and Shafiu used the Internet to lodge into people's private financial transactions and accounts.The accused managed to lodge into a website and got access to the online banking account of the complainant who transacts online banking account with JP Morgan Chase Bank in New York.Mr Yakubu said the accused persons fraudulently processed a transfer of 10,000 dollars from the account of the complainant into the account of Debrah's girl friend, Harriet Adomah, at Merchant Bank in Koforidua.Debrah told Adomah that he wanted to receive money through her account from a friend.On January 18, Adomah withdrew 42 million cedis from the amount transferred into her account and on the following day withdrew the remaining 50 million cedis and handed over the 92 million cedis to the accused persons at Akyem Oda.On receipt of the money the accused persons gave Adomah 12 million cedis and shared the remaining 80 million cedis.The prosecutor said the accused persons bought two laptop computers and deposited the balance into their bank accounts with the Ghana Commercial Bank, Tetteh Quarshie Branch in Accra.Mr Yakubu said when the complainant detected that his account had been fraudulently debited, he informed his bankers in New York who traced the transaction to Merchant Bank, Koforidua.Investigations led to the arrest of the two accused persons.Source: GNA
