A circuit in Kumasi has sentenced a labourer, Kofi Zobiri, to four years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing cables worth 20 million cedis belonging to the Ghana Telecommunications (GT).
Zobiri pleaded guilty to the charge and the court ordered that the retrieved cables be handed over to the GT.
Police Chief Inspector Wilfred K. Salia told the court that on February 8, this year, Zobiri who lived at Aboabo Zongo in Kumasi went to Atonsu S-Line also an area in the township, took advantage of a downpour as well as power outage and climbed the GT pole and cut the cables.
Chief Insp. Salia said residents saw the act and quickly raised an alarm resulting in the arrest of the suspect.
