The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has assured it will work with the African Union and its members in building on on-going discussions, financial support and technical assistance as well as addressing the continent’s other challenges.
In a goodwill message to President J.A. Kufuor on his election as the Chairman of the African Union, the Managing Director of the IMF, Mr. Rodrigo Figarero said President Kufuor was assuming the chairmanship of the AU at a time Africa faced some of its greatest opportunities and challenges.
He said the time had come for countries to pursue economic reforms in support of poverty reduction and the other Millennium Development Goals as espoused by the United Nations.
Among the latest to send goodwill messages to President Kufuor is Archbishop Njongo Ndungane of Cape Town, who said the achievements of Ghana give hope to all Africa and South Africa in particular that the struggle for total emancipation was achievable.
Archbishop Ndungane succeeded the renowned Archbishop Desmond Tutu, President and Founder of the African Monitor, South Africa, acknowledged President Kufuor’s outstanding leadership qualities and his inspiring role on the continent.
