The Mpraeso Circuit Court in the Eastern Region has sentenced Ibrahim Adjovi one of the inmates from the Nkawkaw Police Cells last Sunday to three years imprisonment.
Adjovi, who was charged for escaping and causing harm to a fellow inmate pleaded guilty to the first charge but not the other.
Presenting the facts of the case to the court, presided over by Mr Adu Essuman, the prosecutor, ASP Ebenezer Poryor said the suspect together with eight others currently at large in the early hours of Sunday, cut the thick iron bars of the ceiling of the cell and escaped.
He said they severely beat up Yaw Asante, one of the inmates who did not join them but shouted to alert the policemen at the station and in the process injured him.
ASP Poryor said Ibrahim, who was being kept in the cell for robbery at Kwahu Tafo was re-captured in the bush near the Nkawkaw Secondary School shortly after the cell break.
