The Akuafo Hall of the University of Ghana on Tuesday held a reception to recognise and honour farmers for their contribution towards the enhancement of education in the country. The reception was the sixth in the series and aims to strengthen the relationship between the hall and farmers. This follows the naming of the Hall after the farmers for their contribution towards the building of the University some 60 years ago.Professor Ben Ahunu, Provost of the College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, said although the practical attachment for students was instituted not long ago, it had broadened their knowledge and exposed them to challenges and opportunity. He called on the farmers to help institute a scholarship scheme for students of Agriculture and Oceanography to encourage more students into the field.Professor Ahunu commended the farmers for their efforts in ensuring that the nation had abundant food all year round.Alhaji Abdul Salaam Akate, 2007 National Best Farmer was inducted as Honorary Fellow of the Akuafo Hall. This year’s best farmers from the ten regions were decorated by the Hall as an appreciation for their hard work.Source: GNA
