Residents along the Osu Castle and Osu Klottey areas have secured an injunction preventing the Accra Metropolitan Assembly from demolishing their structures.
Residential buildings in the two communities were marked for demolition Friday. A similar demolition at Mensah Guinea, located behind the Accra Arts Centre created a humanitarian situation there.
Accra Mayor Alfred Vanderpuije has blamed the communities along the Osu beach for the outbreak of cholera in Accra and has vowed to destroy the structures.
But the residents said they would resist any attempt to evict them from their settlements.
Spokesperson for the two communities, Nii Otenkorang Ankrah told Joy News they are true indigenes, who were born and bred in the area and so they could not be evicted.
“If you are taking away the full stretch of the Osu beach, it means that you are wiping away a whole clan.”
He refuted claims by the AMA that residents of the area contributed to the widespread of cholera in the metropolis.
According to him, such claims are untrue and without any merit.
