A 32-year-old unemployed Benjamin Osabutey has been arrested for allegedly plotting to assassinate Ayawaso Central Sub-Metro Chairman of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly.
Benjamin, however, denied the claim and was granted a police enquiry bail with two sureties.
Victor Kwashie told Joy News he feared for his life after an informant called to caution him about a plot to assassinate him.
“I have been receiving attacking calls because of my work; sometimes I get home late and on my way, I will see people following me and I have to drive off,” he narrated.
According to him, he had a strange call barely two weeks ago from an informant who was advising “me to be careful and that some people are planning to kill me."
He said he did not take the person serious until he [informant] called him for the second time.
After the call, Mr. Kwashie noted he drew the attention of the police. However, he was clueless as to who wanted him dead.
Following his report to the police in Accra, Benjamin was picked up to assist with investigations.
Benjamin denied the claim and was subsequently granted a police enquiry bail with two sureties.
Greater Accra Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Afia Tenge told Joy News the accused has denied the allegation and has since been granted a police enquiry bail with two sureties.
She continued that through police investigation, the suspect was arrested last Friday.
ASP Tenge said Benjamin has not yet been charged for the alleged offence as investigations continue.
The police, she assured would provide Mr. Kwashie with the necessary security.
