Police arrest six persons in Aflao violence

Police in the Volta region have arrested six persons for their role in a near violence situation at Aflao, Thursday.

They include a rival chief of the Aflao Traditional area, Torgbui Afla Detu and five others accused of attempting to attack him [chief].

But calm has returned after the police intervened.

Torgbui Detu is said to be contending a rival chief, Torgbui Ameya Fiti to the throne of the area.

Torgbui Detu’s visit to the town Thursday created angry reactions by the opposing faction with some youth firing muskets.

A court injunction bars him from entering the town but he ignored it.

Meanwhile, Joy News’ correspondent Edem Muta Nyasorgbor reported calm had returned to the area following a joint military and police presence in the area.

The Volta Region Police Commander, DCOP Gyinaie Peterkin, told Joy News that Torgbui Detu would be put before court Friday for defying the court injunction, which stopped him from visiting the town.
