Long-suspended Police Director of Operations, Kofi Boakye has called for his reinstatement in the service. He was interdicted in 2006, following the Georgina Wood Committee report which found him culpable in the famous yet scandalous disappearance of large quantities of cocaine aboard the M.V. Benjamin. The committee recommended his prosecution, but the police administration interdicted him, pending further investigations into the case.Just a day before leaving office, former President Kufuor ordered the Police Council to reinstate the Police Director of Operations and pay his full benefits.Five months into the Mills administration, Kofi Boakye has been left in the lurch with his future hanging in the balance. His lawyer, Joe Aboagye Debrah told Joy FM’s Evans Mensah his client is still waiting for the Police Council to be reinstated so he could put in his case.He said ACP Kofi Boakye will return a more enhanced police officer after he was successfully called to the bar.But a member of the Police Council and Minister of Interior, Cletus Avoka, said the former Director of Operations will have to wait a while longer.Even though the Police Council has been instituted, Cletus Avoka noted, the president is yet to swear them into office. This he said has disabled the council members from taking any decision on the matter. He advised the beleaguered police boss to petition the council once it is duly sworn into office.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline
