A group of 27 Cuban doctors arrived in Accra on Saturday as part of renewed efforts by the government to bolster health care delivery, especially in deprived areas.
Welcoming the team at the Kotoka International Airport, Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, Minister of Health, expressed the hope that they will not only augment the current strength of medical professionals in the country, but will also help to administer quality health care to the people.
He said government had initiated measures to scale up the production of doctors with the corresponding facilities to meet the country’s health needs and described the Cuban team's presence as most timely.
He assured the Cubans that government would ensure that they worked in comfort and had all they needed for their mission.
Dr. Fillipe Belgado Bastillo, Coordinator of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Ghana, said the team had a lot of goodwill and zeal towards their mission.
