Founding Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has called the Police Command to act after a Member of Parliament admitted to firing gunshots at a voters' registration centre on Monday.
According to Mr. Tamakloe, the act is one that threatens the peace and safety of the country therefore must not be ignored.
“I think this is the work of the police. If the police is unable to investigate or do what they are supposed to do then we are in big trouble as a country.
"There shouldn’t be selective justice at all in this country, no matter who is involved; be a Minister or even the President. If the person goes wrong the law should definitely take charge,” he said.
Mavis Hawa Koomson on Monday admitted to firing gunshots at a voters' registration center, an act that has received massive condemnation from the public.
The Special Development Initiatives Minister justifies the act by indicating that she fired the shots to protect herself at an instance when she felt her safety was threatened.
Although there have been several calls for her prosecution, that is yet to happen, however, Police authorities say they are investigating the matter.
Mr. Tamakloe in this light is also urging the police to be just in performing their duties.
According to him, the police have a duty of protecting the citizenry and as such, must not be biased in the discharge of their duties.
He, therefore, says persons who flout the laws of the country must be dealt with regardless of their status.
"The law appears not to be doing that now and the police appears to be toothless and it is very unfortunate but the police is supposed to be independent of any institution, of even government, they should work toward peace of this country and the police itself appears not to be doing that.
"That is disturbing to the nation itself and if you’re not careful and this continues then we are going to have a completely destroyed nation," he added.
