Police in Kenya have made arrests and fired tear gas at protesters who were against misuse of Covid-19 funds.
The protesters had congregated at Uhuru Park, in the capital Nairobi.
One of the protesters said 12 people had been arrested:
The #ArrestCOVID19Thieves protest had more plains clothes cops than protestors! A waste of public resources to protect thieves! Release the12 Active Citizens and arrest the real thieves @NPSOfficial_KE!!! They are being held at Central Police Station but not yet booked. pic.twitter.com/s4VLCUK3Pb

The hashtag #ArrestCovid19Thieves was trending in Kenya as activists demanded accountability on Covid-19 funds.
The protests come after reports of alleged misuse of funds and diversion of donations meant to combat the pandemic.
The government has however denied misappropriating funds despite earlier calls for investigations.
