The No Business as Usual Hub (NBU Project) has equipped 200 young people with entrepreneurship and employable skills.
This is to help secure jobs and succeed at work places.
Beneficiaries were trained under the Youth Entrepreneurship and Employability Program (YEEP) at the No Business as Usual Hub (NBU).
The NBU Project is a collaborative effort between SOS Children’s Village Ghana and Asokore Mampong Municipal with sponsorship from the European Union.
Programs Director at SOS CV Kumasi, Bernard Amoako charged graduates to effectively use the acquired skills and knowledge.
“You are stepping into the job market. We challenge you to be the next generation of youth with a fore leading perspective. We expect you to impact the community positively.
“Moreover, those who want to establish their own businesses may lack entrepreneurial skills. Others may not have access to capital. The NBU Project targeted 500 vulnerable youth within the Asokore Mampong Municipality. Today 200 of them are graduating. Four hundred and fifty nine graduated months ago. This shows we have exceeded our target,” he said.
The Project is targeted at disadvantaged, marginalized, eager to work and unemployed youth.
Trainees are classified into Alpha, Beta and Gamma groups.
They undergo training on both hard and soft skills.
Acting Project Cordinator of the No Business as Usual Hub, Roberta Aryeetey, says provision for startup kits have been made available to entrepreneurs.
“Currently, there are about 95 entrepreneurs under the project. One hundred and eighty youth have acquired training in fashion designing, make-up artistry, shoe making, graphic designing, cake and pastries, bead making etc.
“Trainees will be supported with startup tool kits. Industrial machines make up kits; over locking machines have been presented to some trainees. This is a continuous support with special focus on PWD’s and persons with special needs who have completed their training,” she said.
Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong, Alhaji Alidu Seidu expressed his readiness to support the project by establishing a technical and vocational center.
