Transport Minister-designate, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah says processes are still ongoing for government to construct the sky train project as a means of transport in the country.
At his vetting on Tuesday, Mr Asiamah noted that his office together with Railways Ministry has engaged various prospective developers who have expressed in constructing the project.
He, however, added that copies of the contract have been sent to the Attorney General's Department awaiting a reply.
According to him, should the Attorney General provide a positive reply, all necessary initiatives will be implemented to commence the project.
"For the proposal that we have received, we have sent it to the Attorney General for the department to look at it and advise us on how we should engage them.
"So yes, there are prospective developers who are waiting for us but we must be sure that we are on the side of law first. So that is where we are now," he stated.
Mr Asiamah then added that "when the Attorney General provides its final report we will study it and go to cabinet for cabinet memo then come to Parliament for approval to start the process of developing the board ways and lights.
Moreover, the Minister-designate partly blamed the Covid-19 pandemic for delaying the processes to construct Ghana's first-ever sky train.
On Monday, November 11, 2019, the government of Ghana signed the concession agreement for the construction of the Accra SkyTrain Project at the sidelines of an African Investment Forum.
At the signing ceremony, President Akufo-Addo said it was a happy day for Ghana adding that it was a critical step towards the consummation of this project.
The investors said that the first station for the Accra Sky Train project will be opened in 9 months, that is, August 2020.
However, it has been 15 months now but the project is yet to be actualised.
