The Minority Leader in Parliament is hauling the Transport Minister before Parliament to account for monies accrued from the Covid-19 testing at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Haruna Iddrisu has filled an urgent question to be answered next week on the Floor of Parliament to get details from Kwaku Ofori Asiamah concerning the proceeds from the contract between the Ghana Airport Company and Frontiers Healthcare Services.
The accounting period is the end of December 2020.
The Tamale South MP wants Mr Ofori Asiamah to provide the House with a breakdown of the amount accrued from the testing and how much of it was allocated to the respective parties in the deal.
Government as part of measures to open the country's international air borders in September 2020, contracted Frontiers Healthcare Solution Services Limited to conduct Covid-19 test arriving passengers at KIA.
ECOWAS citizens were to pay $50 for the test, while non-ECOWAS passengers, were required to pay $150 for the test.
The country's procurement law makes provision for emergency procurement and donations to be undertaken in the event of unforeseen occurrences such as natural disaster or epidemic, subject to the Public Procurement Board’s approval, in accordance with Act 663, Section 40.
However, during the vetting of Akufo-Addo's ministerial nominees, it came to the fore that there were procurement breaches in awarding the contract to Frontiers.
According to reports, the company was operating when it had no license.
There was buck-passing between the Health, Information, Transport and Aviation Minister nominees when members of the Appointments Committee posed the question.
With no clear answer so far, the Minority Leader is seeking information concerning the funds accrued from the contract as of the end of December 2020.
The Minority suspecting procurement breaches is, therefore, documents to ascertain whether due diligence was done.
